I aspire to be fit and tone, but I am lazy at heart.  I can watch others exercise and admire their progress.  What did it take to motivate me to truly pursue being fit?  I can clearly remember four events that changed the direction of my “fitness life” in 2016:

  1. A friend recommending Body Balance massages on Facebook
  2. My failure to get “fit” on my own at 24 Hour Fitness
  3. Watching a Korean drama that depicted a woman’s fitness turnaround under the guidance of a trainer who believed in dedication to a custom exercise regimen and healthy eating
  4. Scheduling my first massage appointment with Kristi and that fateful meeting with John prior to the massage

At our first meeting, John encouraged me to do what I was thinking about, which is to get a fitness assessment.  His gentle nudging was enough for me to “just do it”.  Since February 2016, I have met my goals of achieving core strength, reducing my osteoporosis risk and improving my balance.  Along the way, I have learned to be a better listener to what my body is telling me regarding what it can and cannot do.  Thanks to John and Body Balance, I am having the best time enjoying being the most “fit” I’ve ever been (in 65 years).  My 2017-2018 goal is to tweek and maintain so I can go the distance to “infinity and beyond”.

In May 2014, I was introduced to Body Balance by wonderful friends, Eve and Tom West. Initially I went to boot camp on Saturday mornings to build camaraderie with Tom and to get myself in
better shape.

Here I am, almost four years later, working out at Body Balance. My experience over the past four years has forever changed me and put me on a path to a healthier life.

However, it was not until 2017 that things really started to change for me. Last year, I modified my eating habits, and added a second day of working out each week along with running a couple of days a month. I went from 245 lbs to my current weight of 215 lbs today.

Additionally, I have made some great friends while training for the Rugged Maniac and the Spartan obstacle course races, which I do with the Body Balance crew.

I’m grateful to John and Kristi for creating Body Balance and to all their amazing staff of trainers who know just how much to push you to get the most out of you.

To say I’m appreciative would be an understatement.

I first met John many years ago when I was wanted to get back into shape as I was approaching a milestone birthday. Working with John over several months, I was able to lose weight and improve my overall fitness level.

After working with John for a time, I pursued my fitness regime on my own for several years. That was until 2016, when I found myself back at Body Balance. During the winter of 2016, I suffered a snow skiing injury that required surgery and a very long recovery period that severity limited my activity level. When I completed my rehab, I started working out at a “big box gym” but I was not consistent, didn’t really know what to do or where to start. I knew that I needed to do something drastic to get in shape.

Working with Donna twice a week, we laid out a plan to get me back on track. By January 2017, my strength and endurance had increased to the point I could comfortably join the Saturday morning boot camp.

Beginning in January 2017, I started being more mindful of my diet and gradually increased my workouts, both at Body Balance and on my own. Since that time, I have lost over 25 lbs.,
dropped 4 inches off my waist, and decreased my BMI.

More importantly, my overall fitness level is much improved; in 2017 I was able to successfully complete three obstacle course races. This meant climbing ropes, carrying heavy objects over long
distances, trail runs over hilly, rough terrain, and completing a variety of other obstacles. There was no way I would have ever considered taking on these challenges without the support, knowledge, and training provided by John, Kristi, Karl, Donna, and the rest of the Body Balance team. I am looking forward to completing the Spartan Trifecta in 2018 with the Body Balance Crew!!

If you are serious about improving your health and wellbeing, no matter your age, Body Balance can help you achieve your goals.

At Body Balance, you are not a client John and Kristi treat you like one of their family!

I feel safe training with Didi. She teaches me the proper way to exercise so I don’t do it wrong. I feel looser in my shoulders & it improves my hip and my gait/walking ability.

I have the privilege of working at Body Balance and one of the great perks is that I get to work out here too! The trainers customize their workouts for each person and offer a wide variety of exercises, keep things fun, and provide a supportive atmosphere that motivates me to give my all every time.

I have been training with John since he started as a personal trainer 12 years ago. I have seen Body Balance grow, improve, and become one of the best places to train and take care of my body. I have been to the big gyms and I didn’t like the crowds and all the waiting for the equipment. I tried to do it at home, but things just distracted me or I was just tired! I found that if I had an appointment 2 times a week I could always get my workout in. I challenge you to try one massage from any massage therapist at Body Balance- you will never go anywhere else ever again. They really know what they are doing! In addition, the best part of Body Balance is the staff- they are like family and they truly care for you and care about how your body will treat you in the future!

My whole family has come to workout at Body Balance. Our time here had a profound and lasting impact on the health of our family. The training made us all stronger, but that was such a small part of the growth we experienced. Through the time we spent with John and Kristi we were pushed to personal growth as well. John recommended reading that changed the course of my life and 2 of my sons were inspired to become personal trainers. Kristi’s expert massages healed us when we were sore and broken. The true difference is the genuine concern that they have for your whole person. The goals are truly your own and they meet you right where you are, ready to help you get to where you want to be.

Why I love Body Balance? Body Balance has the most personable, friendly, and competent staff you can find. They conform to all your needs and desires and turn them into a reality. You cannot find a place where you feel more comfortable and glad to be there! Body Balance rocks!

Carl is great. He constantly pushes me. He mixes up the training to makes it fun and hard at the same time. I am happy to have him as my trainer & friend.

Olivia has done a great job of massaging the knots in my body that I have developed in my workouts with Carl. She does the best on my legs- my knees are not good and Olivia has helped me work towards the new and improved me. She is what got me started here at Body Balance. I have never trained like this before. Carl has done a great job walking me through the process of training. I have learned so much about my body. I sure feel better able to do more. Carl offers a challenging workout, but he always makes it fun.

I’ve been coming to Body Balance for 10+ years for all the blood, sweat, & tears. This has helped me in all my daily activities & sports.
